College of Education and Human Development Dean Michael Rodriguez recently announced that Dr. Cassie Scharber, Associate Professor in Learning Technologies and Assistant Dean for Professional and Online Education, has been appointed as the Bonnie Westby Huebner Endowed Chair in Education and Technology. This prestigious recognition honors the scale, uniqueness, and excellence of Dr. Scharber's outstanding contributions to the college, the fields of education and technology, and the global community at large.

This endowed fund was created in 2008 by the family of Bonnie Westby Huebner, who graduated with distinction from the University of Minnesota in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She went on to become a cherished elementary school teacher who taught first and second grades in Rochester, Minnesota as well as San Marino, California. According to her family, in addition to teaching, Mrs. Huebner loved to read, play bridge, and travel throughout the world. She passed away in 2005, and her legacy in education continues through the work of outstanding and dedicated scholars in Learning Technologies, like Dr. Scharber, who are leading the future through innovations in research, teaching, and service.
