Technology For Transformation: Perspectives of Hope in the Digital Age, a new book published in April 2016, explores the potential of educational technologies as a way to transform education for social justice. LT Associate Professor Cassandra Scharber and LT PhD candidate Kris Isaacson collaborated with Literacy Education’s Professor Cynthia Lewis and recent doctoral graduate Tracey Pyscher contributed a chapter.

In their chapter, “Pathways for All: Teens, Tech, and Learning,” the authors explore how participants utilize technology to liberate themselves or challenge oppressive forces (e.g., dominant discourses) in different complex technology-mediated settings, both in school and out of school. The chapter discusses how the perpetuation of social reproduction, authoritarianism, and the neo-liberal agenda can be challenged and redeployed through explicit teaching and learning practices.
