LTML director Doering invited Australian colleague and friend Professor Barney Dalgarno to the LT Media Lab (LTML) to present his recent research from the uImagine Digital Learning Innovation Lab, which Dalgarno leads at Charles Sturt University (CSU) in New South Wales. While in Minnesota, Dalgarno also had the opportunity to learn more about the design and development work being spearheaded at LTML — as well as attend his first baseball game and try out some classic American stadium food like hotdogs and mini donuts :).

Doering first met Dalgarno in 2013, when Dalgarno invited him to CSU as a visiting professor. From that visit, collaborations with Dalgarno and his colleagues have evolved, including work on a new Traditional Knowledge Network.

Dalgarno's presentation at LTML focused on his research around polysynchronous learning design and how it can help address key challenges in practice-based education. Dalgarno's broader research contributions focus on three areas: the relationship between learning technology and learning theory; learning in polysynchronous learning environments, including 3D virtual environments; and university teacher and student attitudes towards and use of learning technologies. He has authored over 75 refereed publications, and is a lead editor of the Australasian Journal of Educational Technology.
