For the fifth consecutive summer, the Minnesota Alliance for Geographic Education (MAGE) brought inservice teachers to the LT Media Lab (LTML) for training on integrating geotechnology, standards-based geography content, and innovative pedagogies in the classroom. Doering, director of LTML and co-director of MAGE, kicked off events at LTML with an introduction to the lab’s Earthducation and WeExplore projects. Teachers explored multiple geotechnologies while at the lab, including ESRI’s ArcGIS software. Doering and LTML are currently working on a new online learning environment with ESRI and the National Trust for Historic Preservation, featuring National Park Service historic sites and assets.
MAGE runs multiple teacher workshops and institutes throughout the year. Two additional institutes will be held at LTML this year: an advanced geotechnology institute and a new workshop on social science inquiry using maps as primary documents, sponsored by the Library of Congress.
