Educators from schools and libraries participated in LT Code Camp, a two-day professional development workshop focused on integrating computer science and computational thinking activities into education. The camp challenged participants to explore why computer science is important for students, what online and “unplugged” resources were available for teaching computer science and coding, and how to create a plan to bring this back to their schools and organizations.
LT Code Camp participant Nancy shared, “I will start saying, ‘you need to debug your paper — the end user cannot understand it’ with my writers”. Through hands on activities, opportunities to experiment with coding platforms, and group reflections the connection to the current curriculum became clear. The participants used #LTCodeCamp to share their reflections, we invite you to join our twitter chat to share your own favorite coding and computer science resources.
LT Code Camp was a great success and the LT Media Lab looks forward to offering this workshop again. To stay up to date on all LTML workshops and events be sure to follow us on Twitter, @LTMediaLab.
