New Publication in Educational Philosophy and Theory

Cassie and two colleagues from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction @ UMN recently had the first article of a three article series published in the journal, Educational Philosophy and Theory.  “A Conceptional Exploration of Participation: Section I: Introduction and Early Perspectives” grounds this extensive exploration of the concept of participation through an analysis of definitions and an exploration of meanings from the fields of anthropology, philosophy, aesthetic theory, political science, and third world development. They hope that by bringing attention to gradations in meaning, they can to raise awareness of the superficial use of participation that is reflected in much of the educational literature and highlight possibilities that more thoughtfully-formulated and consciously-chosen meanings of participation could offer the field of education.
