This site is an educational portal for information and resources associated with the statewide Geographic Information Systems (GIS) license in the state of Minnesota. Geospatial technologies are one of the three fastest growing technology fields (Source: U.S. Department of Labor). To introduce students to the geospatial tools and skills that will be required for many high-demand jobs of the future, Minnesota through a partnership of organizations and individuals have negotiated a statewide license for ESRI Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software.

Association of American Geographers
The Association of American Geographers (AAG) is a scientific and educational society founded in 1904. Its 8,400+ members share interests in the theory, methods, and practice of geography and geographic education.

Minnesota Center for Social Studies Education
The Center for Social Studies Education (CSSE) is a project sponsored by the Minnesota Department of Education and hosted by the Minnesota Historical Society. In 2009, a social studies clearinghouse was created for Minnesota educators, to provide information about the social studies and assist teachers in meeting the state social studies standards. The Minnesota Historical Society, a nonprofit institution charged with collecting and preserving Minnesota history, hosts the CSSE and seeks to provide the most up-to-date social studies information on the CSSE website, in cooperation with other social studies organizations in Minnesota: the Minnesota Alliance for Geographic Education, the Minnesota Council for Economic Education, the Learning, Law and Democracy Foundation, and the Minnesota Council for the Social Studies.

MCSS is a professional advocacy group that encourages teachers to be proactive leaders who challenge and educate empowered students to promote human dignity in an increasingly global society through the study of all social studies.
