LTML co-director Doering and LT PhD candidate Jeni Henrickson have just published a new adventure learning article, “Teaching Sustainability through Adventure,” in the Journal of Sustainability Education. The article discusses the history of adventure in education, provides background on two adventure-in-education models (adventure education and adventure learning), and proposes user-driven adventure learning as a model that educators and designers can draw from in both formal and informal learning settings as a means to fuse adventure, technology, and sustainability education in a pedagogically meaningful way. Doering & Miller rock the stage at See Change 2013

LTML co-directors Doering and Miller delivered a mesmerizing, media-filled presentation to a full house at the See Change 2013 conference today. Their talk, titled “Exploring the Intersection of Design, Education, and Sustainability,” showcased many LTML projects such as Avenue, Earthducation, North of Sixty, WeExplore, and Flipgrid.

See Change is an annual conference centered on the power of visual communication across the creative spectrum.

Doering interviewed live on “Wake Up with Al” about North of Sixty

LTML co-director Doering was interviewed live yesterday morning by Al Roker and Stephanie Abrams from the “Wake Up with Al” studio in New York City. The Weather Channel and “Wake Up with Al” had featured video coverage and live chats with Doering from the Canadian Arctic during the North of Sixty pulking expedition last month. The show then invited Doering to come to New York and meet Al and Stephanie in person to share more with viewers about this unique project and Doering’s decade-long experiences traveling within the circumpolar Arctic and working with communities there.

“Wake Up with Al” featured two live interview segments with Doering yesterday, and we thank the hosts and producers for their interest in North of Sixty! If you missed the live coverage, we plan to posts links to it soon.

Great turnout & creative energy at 3rd Annual LT MEd Student Showcase

Ten graduating LT MEd students gave presentations and demos focused on their final projects to a packed house of colleagues, faculty, family, and friends last night at the 3rd Annual LT MEd Student Showcase. Final projects spanned the breadth of the learning technologies field, from mobile design and development to the design of learning management systems, curricula, teacher support and education programs, corporate training, and education and design pedagogies.

Led by MEd advisor Dr. Joel Donna, the event progressed from student presentations to an unposter session, during which time students showcased their projects on large display monitors in the LTML main lab space, and interacted with event attendees, answering questions and sharing future plans and dreams. The creative energy flowing at the event was exciting.

A big congrats to all the graduating students, and best wishes for continued success in all your creative endeavors:

The LT Media Lab was honored to be a finalist at the GSV Education Innovation Summit ROE Awards ceremony on April 17, 2013. LTML was nominated in the ROE Accelerator category for their research and design work that has impacted more than 20 million teachers and students over the last decade.

Nate Edwards joins the LTML team!

Nate Edwards, M.Ed. student in Learning Technologies at the University of Minnesota, has joined the LTML design and development team – welcome, Nate! Nate will be working on the Avenue, Flipgrid, and iPad development projects within LTML, as well as working on the designs of all LTML projects.

Nate’s background is in web development, interaction design, and mobile design, in addition to working with the National Park Service for 14 years as a technology specialist. When not pushing pixels, Nate tries to keep up with his 14-month old son, Walt, and sleep as much as possible!
