DAILY AUDIO UPDATE

Charlie Miller
We spent much of today on Magnetic Island, where we first visited with Rachel Angus at the Solar City project, an energy reduction project that has resulted in energy consumption levels on the island being returned to 2007 levels and deferring the need to add another undersea power cable to the island from the mainland. We then visited the Magnetic Island State School, where we met with Principal Jo Sinclair-Jones; with Charlie McColl, a longtime island resident and preservationist who’s been involved in a number of environmental cleanup efforts on the island; and with Stephanie Hobbs, a longtime teacher at the school. After our visit to the school, we made the 4-hour drive back to Cairns, and will head out to the Great Barrier Reef tomorrow.
