Completed Expeditions
In 2010 we completed a preliminary expedition across Baffin Island (Nunavut, Canada) in which we pulked 130 miles between two Inuit communities: Qikitarjuaq and Pangnirtung. We worked with elders, teachers, and students in both villages and documented their beliefs on education and living with the land. In January 2011 we completed Expedition 1: Africa as we traveled more than 1,000 miles across Burkina Faso (western Africa) and interviewed 35 individuals, including kings, elders, government officials, teachers, students, and the public. We also documented three extraordinary sustainability narratives: an individual's mission to protect the land from deforestation, a Shea-butter factory run by widowed women to pay for their children's education, and a community-led garden project in a rural village.
