Redefining ASL E-Assessment
AvenueASL is an innovative ASL practice, assessment, and evaluation system that creates a virtual language lab. AvenueASL was designed to address the evolving needs of ASL instructors by establishing (a) a platform for students to capture, submit, and archive ASL video performances, (b) a setting for instructors to evaluate and report student performance and feedback, (c) a portfolio where students can monitor their personal performance and feedback, (e) an assessment design tool where instructors can create and assign custom student assessment tasks, and (e) an administration component to manage and coordinate performance evaluation and feedback data.
AvenueASL was designed and developed 100% in the LT Media Lab at the University of Minnesota.
Efficient, reliable, scalable, transformative.
Integrated dashboard interfaces for students and instructors enable efficient navigation and organization of performance tasks, assignments, feedback, and captured media.
Student assessments are flexible, yet follow a familiar structure. Students are presented with instructions, view media, align themselves with their webcams, and self-assess their performance.
Tailored feedback packages let instructors give multiple modes of feedback through custom scoring protocols, open-ended text, and performance-specific recorded videos.
Dynamic, interactive visualizations display student performance datasets clearly and enable efficient progress-monitoring and management. Users can export all performance data for external use.
The assessment builder enables the creation of highly customized assessments. Specify task instructions and duration, create custom scoring parameters, and upload or record custom media. In addition, you can search for license-free images through Flickr integration.
